When turning 30 and feeling my inner child diluted by the demands of adulthood, I was inspired to start a multi-media collection titled “The Tension of Transition” (appropriately abbreviated as T.O.T.).

The idea was put into motion by a self-portrait piece my Grandmama preserved and showed me from my childhood.

Inspired by the color and imagination of “Little Lex” this event illustrated how empty space is simply room to grow into your fullest self.

As an artist and audience, through original songs, poetry, dance, sensory activities, and digital/ traditional artwork, we explored the tension that accompanies transitioning from childhood to adulthood.

I hope my work illuminates this truth: When trauma and self-discovery evacuated the most precious parts of who I was, the impetus to create propelled me into the truth of who I am today.

Tension of Transition was made possible by the Independent Artist Grant awarded by the Broward Arts Cultural Division and sponsorships by Field of Flowers and PDQ. Photography and Videography: Keijon. Venue: Old Davie School. Original Music by Alexis Taylor and Noah Brown.

This event would not have been possible without our Artists and community!
